Motor Reuse or Replacement GEARED APPLICATIONS – selection is job dependent: Drive and motor selection are affected by the condition of the geared machine. When changing to a new machine, you may prefer to use an AC motor. CAR SPEEDS TO 150 FPM (.75 m/s) • Existing: Old AC motor Recommendation: Replace with New AC motor; use inverter drive • Existing: DC motor in good condition Recommendation: Retain DC motor (especially above 40 HP) • Existing: Old DC motor, below 40 HP Recommendation: Replace with New AC motor; use inverter drive (40 HP or above use Flux Vector Drive). • Existing: Non-standard motor frame (hard-to-find/expensive replacement) Recommendation: Recondition (overhaul/rewind) existing AC motor • Existing: Building has stringent RFI and EMI requirements Recommendation: Avoid changing to AC; however, when changing to AC, system may require grounding and additional filtering (anticipate costs).
