About 1746-OA8

The Allen-Bradley 1746-OA8 is an SLC 500 AC output module. This module is part of discrete output modules, used to energize electrical loads that operate at an operating voltage range of 85-264 VCA with frequency of 47-63 Hz. The module’s nominal output voltages are 120VAC and 240VAC and occupies a single slot of the 1746 chassis.

Each channel of the 1746-OA8 delivers a continuous output current of 1.0 A @ 30 °C (86 °F) or 0.50 A @ 60 °C (140 °F) while the maximum continuous output current per module is 8.0 A @ 30 °C (86 °F) and 4.0 A @ 60 °C (140 °F). Additionally, each channel has an ON signal delay of 1 ms for resistive load and maximum OFF delay signal of 11 ms for resistive load as well.

The 1746-OA8 draws backplane current amounting to 185 mA @ 5VDC with ON state output voltage drop of 1.50V @ 1.0 A. The module’s minimum load current is 10 mA with maximum OFF state leakage output current of 2 mA. The module’s maximum surge current per point is 10 A for 25 ms.

The 1746-OA8 fits to any available slot of the 1746 chassis except the first slot which is reserve for the SLC 500 processor.

The 1746-OA8 must be configured using the RSLogix 500 programming software. With the programming software, individual channel operation and parameters may be set. For installation, the module must be attached to the chassis when power is not actively supplied as this module does not support Removal and Insertion Under Power (RIUP).

The 1746-OA8 has a maximum leakage current of 2mA in its OFF state and the minimum current load on each output point is 10mA. The maximum current on each output point is 1A which falls to 0.5A at 60 °C and the aggregate current on the 1746-OA8 module is 8A but it can fall to 4A at 60 °C. It has a drop voltage of 1.50V at 1A in its OFF state and the module has an output current surge of 10A for 25ms. The 1746-OA8’s factory-designated operational temperature falls between 0 and 60 °C (32 and 140 °F) and it must be used in 5-95% non-condensing relative humidity and stored at a temperature between 40 and 85 °C (-40 and 185 °F). It is built to withstand an operational vibration of 2.5G at 57-2000 Hertz and it can sustain a shock rating of 30G. The 1746-OA8 features NEMA standard ICS 2-230 Noise Immunity and is UL and CSA-certified.
