The IC697MEM717 is a CMOS expansion memory module produced by GE Fanuc, designed specifically for the 9070 series. It is available in four variants: 64 KB, 128 KB, 256 KB, and 512 KB. Primarily, the IC697MEM717 serves to expand logic and data memory in the Programmable Coprocessor Module (PCM) IC697PCM711, as well as in CPU 771 and CPU 772 modules. Mounted as a daughterboard, it occupies the same slot as the module it supports, with its memory supplementing the storage available on the baseboard.
In the case of a power outage, the IC697MEM717 retains data via a dedicated lithium battery (catalog number IC697ACC701), which is conveniently located on the baseboard housing. This battery is responsible for preserving user memory during power loss and also powers the calendar clock in the PLC CPU. It is recommended that a new battery be installed before removing the old one. The battery has a shelf life of 10 years when stored at the recommended temperature of 20°C (68°F).
The PLC CPU continuously performs error checks on the logic program memory as a background task. For the PCM, storage memory undergoes error checks during power cycles and hard or soft resets. Another notable feature of the IC697MEM717 is its configurable capability to retain data and programs. Furthermore, installation requires no special tools, making on-site memory expansion straightforward.
