Developed by GE Fanuc as part of its Series 90-70 product line, the IC697CMM741 functions as both an interface device and an Ethernet controller. Specifically designed for GE Series 90-70 IC 697 programmable controllers, it enables seamless connectivity between the host PLC and either TCP/IP Ethernet LAN devices or GE Series 90-70 MMS devices, while also supporting direct attachment to LANs compliant with the IEEE 802.3 CSMA/CD standard.

This compact device is a single-slot module, requiring only one slot in the PLC rack for secure installation—making it a space-efficient addition to control systems. A key advantage lies in its software flexibility: its operating software can be easily loaded or upgraded via RAM, and the controller retains this software for a minimum of six months even in the event of a power outage. The supported software suite is comprehensive, encompassing TCP/IP and MMS/OSI communication protocols, full-featured programming and communication software for both Windows and DOS, as well as specialized tools for thorough diagnostics and station management.

For network connectivity, the IC697CMM741 utilizes a standard 15-pin D-type connector to link to a transceiver device. Users can choose between a user-supplied transceiver cable or an AUI (Attachment Unit Interface) cable for this connection, which serves as the bridge between the Ethernet controller and the Ethernet LAN.

The module is equipped with three LED indicators, allowing users to conveniently monitor the operational status of its interface. In terms of data storage, its RAM—backed by a battery—stores all communication software, while ROM and firmware handle the device’s core functions, configuration software, and diagnostic capabilities, ensuring reliable performance and easy maintenance.
