The GE Fanuc IC693CMM301 module is a Series 90-30 Genius Communications Module. This module is made to communicate automatically. It makes “global data” communications possible between a GE Fanuc Series 90-30 PLC and as many as 7 additional devices with a Genius bus. Global data communications are communications that involve data which is transmitted repeatedly and automatically and which can be received by multiple devices with a shared database. Some of the devices that the IC693CMM301 Genius Communications Module can provide global data to include GE Series 90-30 PLCs, GE Series 90-70 PLCs, a computer that is used for programming and configuration applications, and another computer with a PCIM card that is used for data monitoring applications.

The GE Fanuc IC693CMM301 Genius Communications Module can exchange a maximum of 32 bytes or 256 bits of data in total. It is easy to connect the IC693CMM301 Genius Communications Module to the backplate of the PLC that hosts it. This module has no jumpers or DIP switches, so it must be configured with a handheld programmer or with the proper system programming software. There are 2 LEDs on the IC693CMM301 Genius Communications Module. The OK LED means that the module has completed and passed its powerup test and that it is operating properly. The COM LED means that the module has been initialized by a Series 90-30 GE PLC and that the module is receiving bus communications. The COM LED will stay on after a successful startup and throughout operation unless there is a significantly high number errors, which will cause the COM LED to blink.
