The IC697PWR710 is a dedicated power supply module for Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), specifically designed to mount onto a Series 90-70 Baseplate. Its primary function is to deliver essential backplane power, which energizes all other modules installed on the same baseplate.

This module supports both external AC and DC power inputs: it operates with 90–264 VAC (at a frequency of 47–63 Hz) or 100–150 VDC. Under full load, its maximum input power is 90 Watts, with a typical half-cycle peak inrush current of 3 Amperes and a power factor exceeding 0.95. On the output side, it provides a maximum power of 56 Watts, a nominal output voltage of 5.1 VDC, and an output voltage range of 4.90–5.25 VDC.


Protection & Performance Features
The IC697PWR710 integrates built-in overvoltage and overcurrent protection mechanisms. For overvoltage safety, an internal electronic circuit typically clamps the output at 6.2 Volts; for overcurrent protection, an integral electronic limit restricts current to a typical 12 Amperes.

Additional performance attributes include a 21-ms ride-through time—meaning it maintains power output for 21 milliseconds after AC input is lost—and compliance with the VME standard C.1. To enhance system noise immunity, the module is equipped with a dedicated ground terminal. When connecting to this terminal, use American Wire Gauge (AWG) #12 wire (or 3.3 mm² wire). This module ground (GND) terminal must be linked to the rack’s GND terminal, which in turn connects to a functional earth ground. All connections should be tightened to a torque of 12 in-lb (1.3 N-m), and only copper conductors rated for 75°C should be used.


Design & Installation Details
Manufactured by GE Fanuc, the IC697PWR710 is a key component of the Series 90-70 PLC platform, with a rated input range covering 120–240 VAC or 125 VDC. It incorporates active power factor correction circuits, which stabilize the power factor and eliminate the need for oversized circuit breakers or wiring—reducing installation and maintenance costs.

A critical design focus is fuse protection: if an overvoltage condition triggers an internal fault, the module is engineered to prevent the power supply fuse from opening. Similarly, its 12-Ampere electronic overcurrent limit works by lowering the output voltage when the current exceeds the maximum rating; this keeps the module safe until the high load is reduced or removed, avoiding fuse failure.

The IC697PWR710 also offers dual-rack protection: it can power two racks, where the second rack only requires 5 VDC, and the total power demand of both racks stays within the module’s capacity. As a plug-in module, it must be installed in the leftmost slot of any standard IC697 rack or a VME integrator rack. Accessing the power supply is simplified by a door that can be easily opened by firmly gripping its left corner.
