The IC660HHC005 is a communication cable specifically designed for use with the IC660HHM501 Hand Held Monitor (HHM). Together, these two products facilitate communication with Genius I/O Blocks, enabling parameter configuration, monitoring, diagnostics, and troubleshooting. Originally manufactured by GE Fanuc Automation, they are now under the Emerson Automation umbrella and have been discontinued.
This cable features a coiled, flexible black design. One end connects to the communication port located on the top-left side of the Hand Held Monitor, while the other end directly fits the Block I/O communication port situated on top of the I/O Block terminal—positioned before the first terminal. It supports multiple communication rates: 153.6 Kbaud (standard), 153.5 Kbaud (extended), 76.8 Kbaud, and 38.4 Kbaud. When fully stretched, it reaches a maximum length of 5 feet (1.5 meters) and weighs 2 pounds.
The IC660HHC005 is compatible with a broad range of devices, including all Genius I/O Blocks, Series Five Genius Bus Controller, Series 90-70 Genius Bus Controller, Series Six Genius Bus Controller (both with and without diagnostics), Series 90-30 GENIUS Communications Module, GENIUS Network Interface (GENI) Module (including versions with inverted connectors), IBM PC Interface Module (PCIM), Series 90-70 Remote I/O Scanner, 24/48VDC Bus Switching Module (BSM), 115VAC/125VDC Bus Switching Module (BSM), and all field control products.
As part of the GE Fanuc Genius I/O series of modules and accessories, this removable plastic coiled cable establishes a reliable electrical path for communication between Genius Hand Held Monitors and Genius I/O Blocks. It can read data from specific memory locations in GE Series 90-70, Series Six, and Series Five PLCs when used with a hand-held monitor. Notably, it can be connected to or disconnected from the target module’s 9-pin D-shell Hand Held Monitor interface at any time without disrupting the Genius I/O network—though caution is required to avoid vibration or shock during connector insertion and removal.
The cable enables both online and offline module configuration when paired with a properly terminated serial bus. Offline configuration is mandatory when adding a new device to an existing system or bus. For online configuration, only one hand-held monitor should be connected to the serial bus to ensure automatic reference address detection without conflicts with other devices or PLCs. If mounting the monitor behind a panel using metal brackets, a panel cutout must be made, and a connector should be installed within reach of the HHM’s communication cable. This connector allows for permanent HHM mounting and includes terminals for bus cables and the hand-held monitor’s coiled communication cable.
