The IC697BEM741 is a dual-channel FIP Bus controller designed for GE Fanuc's Series 90-70 FIP Bus controller system. This controller enables GE IC697 PLCs to connect to 1.0 Megabit FIP or WorldFIP (EN50170) Fieldbus networks, supporting seamless integration into industrial communication architectures.
Capable of accommodating up to 128 field devices, the IC697BEM741 includes compatibility with field control I/O modules (via FIP Bus interface units), FIP Fieldbus-interfaced Series 90-70 and Series 90-30 PLCs, Series 90-30 I/O racks (using FIP remote I/O scanner modules), and generic devices such as bus-interfaced general-purpose computers (equipped with FIP interface modules).
The controller performs serial scanning of I/O devices on the FIP Bus, with I/O data transmitted to the PLC CPU upon completion of each iterative scan. During scanning, the IC697BEM741 independently detects connected remote devices, broadcasts output data from the PLC to peripheral devices, facilitates the transmission of time-sensitive messages from field devices, and receives diagnostic data from connected field equipment.
The GE Fanuc IC697BEM741 occupies a single slot within GE IC697 PLC VME Integrator racks (specifically the IC697CHS782 or IC697CHS783 models). Configuration is achievable via Windows-based programming software, including Logicmaster Series 90-70 or CIMPLICITY Control 90.
Featuring a front-panel design with six LED indicators, the top two ("MODULE OK" and "RUN") display the module's operational status, while the bottom four indicate communication status. Directly beneath the LEDs is a pushbutton for local reset functionality. The controller is also equipped with a 15-pin serial connector (for connecting to a PC to update operating firmware) and two 9-pin FIP Bus connectors (Channels 1 and 2) for linking to dual FIP Busses.
