The GE Fanuc Automation IC693CPU331 is a modular CPU module belonging to the Series 90-30 PLC family. Powered by an 80188 microprocessor running at 10 MHz, it boasts a scanning speed of 0.4 milliseconds per 1K of Boolean logic. Equipped with 16 KB of user memory, this CPU can accommodate 512 discrete input points, 512 discrete output points, 128 words of analog inputs, and 64 words of analog outputs.

Its internal memory architecture comprises 1280 bits of discrete global memory, 1024 bits of internal coils, 256 bits of temporary coils, 128 bits of system status references, 2048 words of register memory, and 16 words of system registers—note that the system registers are for reference table viewing only and cannot be accessed in user logic programs. Additionally, the IC693CPU331 supports 680 timers/counters in total and is compatible with shift register instructions.

Compared to embedded CPUs, this modular CPU offers an override function and is integrated with a battery-backed real-time clock. Its default memory type is Random Access Memory (RAM), with optional EPROM or EEPROM available for installation. The module is designed to fit any 5-slot or 10-slot CPU baseplate, but must be installed exclusively in the dedicated CPU slot (Slot 1). It draws 350 mA of current from the backplane at a 5 VDC bus voltage.

With support for large-scale I/O configurations, the IC693CPU331 enables I/O expansion via up to four remote I/O expansion baseplates. It operates within a temperature range of 32–140 °F (0–60 °C) and occupies a single slot on a 5-slot baseplate.

A built-in serial port is provided, accessible via the PLC power supply connector, supporting SNP slave and SNPX slave protocols. For SNP master, SNP-X master, CCM, and RTU slave functionalities, a separate CMM module is required; RTU master support necessitates an additional PCM module. The AD693CMM301 module can be added to provide two extra serial ports. Furthermore, the IC693CPU331 is compatible with a State Logic Processor (SLP), which enables multi-tasking control capabilities.
