The IC693CHS397 is a 5-slot baseplate from the Series 90-30 Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) family. During the product series active lifecycle, this hardware was part of GE Fanuc Automation however, the PLC series and other products were recently acquired by Emerson Automation. The IC693CHS397 has a total of Five (5) slots and another uncounted slot that is dedicated to the power supply module. This baseplate has One (1) slot dedicated to the Central Processing Unit (CPU) or specialty modules, Four (4) slots assigned for I/O, and option modules. It is also provided with an expansion slot located on the rightmost side of the hardware which can be used for rack extension. Only One (1) CPU is allowed to be installed on this baseplate. Additionally, the same slot for the CPU (Slot 1) is also designed compatibly with communication modules such as a FIP Remote I/O scanner and similar modules. Slot 2 and other I/O slots come in a unique size that does not fit any other modules. This provides connection safety and prevents damage to other modules during installation. The provided baseplate expansion port is a 25-pin D-shell, female connector mounted on the rightmost side of the hardware. When connecting an expansion cable or implementing multiple expansion baseplates, ensure that the total length of the cable shall not exceed 50 feet or 15 meters. The IC693CHS397 is designed for panel mounting through the provided mounting tabs. This hardware measures 10.43 x 5.12 x 5.59 in. (W x H x D) with an internal power consumption of 270 mA at 5 VDC.

The IC693CHS397 baseplate has 5 slots for installing a variety of CPUs and other devices that make up a complete PLC or programmable logic controller. Technically, the GE Fanuc IC693CHS397 baseplate has 6 slots total, not just 5, but the first slot on the left is not numbered because it is always and only used for hosting power supply modules. This power supply slot is a different size and shape than the 5 slots that are numbered, and its size and shape can only accommodate a power supply and nothing else.
The 5 main slots in the GE Fanuc Series 90-30 IC693CHS397 5-slot CPU baseplate include 1 CPU slot which gives the baseplate its name and 4 non-CPU slots that can host I/O modules. There is also an I/O expansion bus connector at the far right edge of the IC693CHS397 baseplate that can be used to expand the I/O communication capabilities of the baseplate beyond what the 4 I/O slots can handle. Expansion baseplates and remote baseplates can be connected to the IC693CHS397 CPU baseplate as part of a larger PLC system, but a PLC can only have 1 CPU baseplate in it. The CPU baseplate is always installed in rack number 0 in the PLC system. Because the IC693CHS397 CPU baseplate supports a modular CPU, it is easy to replace or upgrade the CPU module when necessary.
